Writing A Lot About A Little

This is a skill that you can apply to many aspects of the exam, because it's testing your ability to analyse text. By focusing on a relatively small quote and really digging into it. Obviously it helps to have a general understanding of the context, but you should be trying to look at each word and phrase and comment on how it contributes to the meaning.

The following example breaks down the opening lines of the poem "Half Caste" by Imitiaz Dhaker
The ideas are yours and you're expressing your opinion of how the words affect you. You can't really be right, or wrong, so it's about how well you express your ideas. Once you've completed a set of notes, simply put them into a paragraph like so...
You should apply this skill to analysing prose and poetry. Practise by on random quotes all around you - even tweets and text messages!
