Adverbs modify verbs, but adverbials tell us something about the clause of which they are part.

They can be single words, phrases or clauses.

A fronted adverbial simply goes at the front of the sentence or clause.

For example,

When the dog barked, I jumped out of my seat.

Remember, when the fronted adverbial is a clause, it should always be followed by a comma.
